Introduction Ethernet cards are one of the easiest and quickest ways to connect to the Internet. The following are all the steps needed to setup your software for an Internet connection through VBNet.
  1. Open Network and Dial-up Connections
  2. Open Local Area Connection Properties
  3. Check and Open Internet Protocol Properties
  4. Obtain IP Address and DNS Server Automatically
  5. Click OK to Save Settings

1. Open Network and Dial-up Connections

  • From the Start menu highlight Settings then click on Network and Dial-up Connections.
  • A Network and Dial-up Connection window should appear.



2. Open Local Area Connection Properties

  • Use the mouse to right-click on Local Area Network Connections.
  • Highlight and left-click on Properties.
  • A Local Area Connections Properties window should appear.



3. Check and Open Internet Protocol Properties

  • Make sure Client for Microsoft Networks and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) are checked.
  • Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on Properties.
  • A window entitled Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) should appear.



4. Obtain IP Address and DNS Server Automatically

  • Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
  • Select Obtain DNS server address automatically.



5. Click OK to Save Settings

  • Click on OK at the bottom of the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window.
  • Click on OK again at the bottom of the Local Area Connection Properties window.
Congratulations! Your computer should now be setup to connect to the Internet. If any problems occur information is provided below to help.

  • Correctly installed ethernet card that supports 10 Base T.
  • Properly connected category 5 ethernet cable.
