Introduction Ethernet cards are one of the easiest and quickest ways to connect to the Internet. The following are all the steps needed to setup your software for an Internet connection through VBNet.
  1. Open Network Settings
  2. Select Appropriate Card
  3. Obtain IP Address
  4. Disable DNS
  5. Remove Gateways
  6. Restart Windows

1. Open Network Settings

  • From the start menu highlight Settings, then select Control Panel using the mouse.
  • The Control Panel window should appear.
  • Find Network and double click on it.
  • * If Network is not present, make sure your Control Panel is in view all mode



    2. Select Appropriate Card

    • Find the network card you are using in the list.
    • Make sure TCP/IP is listed. If not, verify your card is installed properly or call our help-line.
    • Select TCP/IP->Your Card
    • Click on properties.
    • A TCP/IP Properties window should appear.



    3. Obtain IP Address

    • Select the IP Address tab on the top of the TCP/IP Properties window.
    • Click on Obtain an IP address automatically.



    4. Disable DNS

    • Select the DNS Configuration tab on the top of the TCP/IP Properties window.
    • Click on Disable DNS.



    5. Remove Gateways

    • Select the Gateway tab on top of the TCP/IP Properties window.
    • If any numbers (gateways) appear under Installed gateways, remove each one by selecting the number then clicking the remove button.



    6. Restart Windows

    • Click on OK at the bottom of the TCP/IP Properties window.
    • Click on OK at the bottom of the Network window. Windows should now prompt you to restart your computer.
    • Restart your computer.
    Congratulations! Your computer should now be setup to connect to the Internet. If any problems occur information is provided below to help.



    Requirements

    • Correctly installed ethernet card that supports 10 Base T.
    • Properly connected category 5 ethernet cable.
